What Is Music Therapy?
Music therapy involves the use of musical experiences, and the relationships that develop through them, as a means to help individuals achieve their potential.
Music therapy (MT) is an an Allied Health Profession (https://ahpa.com.au/allied-health-professions/) conducted by a university trained, postgraduate who has a Masters in MT and up-to-date registration with the Australian MT Association. MT draws on clinical research and uses music-based methods to address an individuals social, psychological, emotional and physical needs within a therapeutic framework.
MT focuses on health care aims and objectives which distinguishes it from musical entertainment or music education.
Music Therapy Service (MTS) was founded in 2016 by Laurel Parkinson to provide exemplary Music Therapy services to her community in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.
Ms Parkinson is a Registered Music Therapist (Australian Music Therapy Association membership #: 414). She has a Bachelor Degree in Music, Master of Music Therapy Degree from University of Melbourne and certification in Neurologic Music Therapy.
